market day

Today was our market day. The year 6's had the hall from 10:30-11:00. We had the hall because it was our day to sell the products we have been making. In my previous blog post I told you all about the process and now I'll tell you about the day........
I had 15 of my lolli-pops and they all sold out! They were $1 each but a few were 60c. This is a photo of my finished product and packaging!

My lollipop packaging

In class we are focusing on a new inquiry called designed to sell. We had to first think of a food product and make sure it met the criteria. like it needs to be kept up to 3 days and we can't work in groups bigger than 2. I chose as my product lollipops because I found it an interesting product and I like them.

For the first week we had to find out an ingredients list we will use, find out the cost of our ingredients, then bring in a few samples for some class members to taste test. We got them to fill out a form and review our product. We made changes if we had to.

For the next two weeks of homework we were focusing on advertising and packaging. We had to focus on creating a logo, brand, company name and package that best suited our product. I trialled a few and decided on a pig mould and making a pig wrapper out of tissue paper. This is the package for my lollipop with the logo on the belly.(My company name is lolly-licious. This is the final copy of what they a will look like!!)It has the ingredients and info on the tag/paper.

Pizza Persuasive

In class we went  to Pipi's pizza and for homework we had to design a new type of pizza flavour. Then in class we had to write some persuasive writing on our pizza to try and convince someone to buy it. After we had finished that, we had to put our writing on a Voki. This is the Voki I did saying my persuasive writing.         This is the picture of the pizza I wrote the Persuasive writing on!

Calendar Art

In school we have been making calendar art. We did Zen-tangling for our art, first we learnt to zentangle then we chose an animal outline, then we printed it or drew our animal. Next we used patterns like poke root, hollibaugh, zander, mist, crescent moon, florz, tipple, and static to fill our animal. Then we stuck it on coloured paper and went over it in black pen.
This is mine.

Strawberry Diorama

For our field to table inquiry we have been learning about strawberries. We visited Scott's Strawberry Farm to record information. When we had collected all our information we had to choose  way to share it, I chose to do a model/diorama.  These are the pictures of mine.

Geometric Patterns

Geometric Patterns

In maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, angles and degrees.  In class we made some Geometric patterns. The Tools we needed were: A ruler, our sheet of paper with the circle on it, a protractor and a sharp pencil, (if we wanted to colour it in then colouring pencils.)We had to find the middle of our circle and draw a straight line from the top to the bottom and from 1 side to the other. Then line up the middle of our protractor on the dot in the middle of the circle. Since we knew that 360 degrees was the whole circle then we split that into how many sides we wanted our circle to have. I chose to challenge myself and did 36 sides so every 10 degrees I drew a line. I haven't finished yet!!!

Starry Night Art Work

Starry night

For art we have been focusing on Vincent Van Gogh. We created a piece of art called starry night. Starry night is created by Vincent Van Gogh. The technique we used was double dipping, double dipping is were you lightly dip your paint-brush into one colour and then into the next so you have 2 colours then you paint and it will look really cool with the 2 colours paint on 1 spot. You can also do that with 3 colours at once. This is my version of starry night.

Quick Write

In writing we have been writing a quick write based on what we thought this photo was about. We had to use complex sentences, Use detail through complex sentences, place a comma in the correct place in a complex sentence, identify different types of complex sentences - Opener, serial and interrupter and use short, strong, sentences.

I hesitated. My friends were behind me. Daring me to jump off the huge old diving board at the jetty. It was a stormy, cold, evening. I was at the jetty next to the sky tower in Auckland. Nobody’s here. Just boats, the waves and us. I decided I’d do it. I flick my hand in the water. It’s as cold as I thought. No worse. I stare at the huge, old, rickety, diving board with missing steps. My friends are still chanting “Do it. Do it, do it, do it, do it,!” “Ok.” I pull myself together. “ I’ll do it,” I say once more. I slowly waddle over to the board. Grab, pull, step. I start climbing up. I go. As I get closer, I start feeling ok. But then suddenly, as I put my hand out to grab the top and pull myself up, that all changes. As the step, my holding brakes. “Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!” I scream. My life flashes before me. Just as I think it’s all over. It’s not. I realise my foot was hooked onto one of the steps. I make my way back up. Climbing, Steadily, up I go. Finally, I’m up.  I peer over the edge, my heart racing……. And then,
And then,
And then,
without thinking, I jump. I spread my arms,  curve my back, spread my legs, and fly.

Foul Shot

In writing we were focusing on a poem called foul shot by Edwin A. Hoey. We had to focus on using strong verbs, only necessary words, capitals each verb on a new line and other skills. The sport/ action we wrote about had to be 10 seconds long and we had to work on having intensity in it. This is the poem I wrote about scoring a soccer goal.

My Foul ShotWith 2 all on the scoreboard and 10 seconds left on the clockThe solemn girl in the centre of eyes Squeezed by silenceI shout for the ballIt’s about 2 metres awaySliding on the slippery grassIt rushes towards meI peer behind me to make sure nobody's comingIts clear,‘Focus’‘Breath’‘Stomp’ The balls under my footLining up with the goal Wipe my sweaty hands on my shirtSwing my foot backBoots

The ballSpinning through the airSlightly skidding on the groundTwirlsSpinsDashesReachesEverybody’s silent WaitingThe goalie dives for the ballAnd then And thenAnd thenWith a Frightening  flick on the goalie's foot,It’s In.

Writing To The Unknown Soldier

As part of our ANZAC day inquiry we were asked to write to the Unknown Soldier. We had to use complex sentences, short powerful sentences and paragraphs.
We had to think about what it was like at war and how they felt.

To an unknown soldier that never came back,

As I’m sitting in my classroom safe, warm and happy with my friends, I’m thinking about you and your battle to give us freedom. I’m writing this letter today to share my thoughts with you. I want you to know that your sacrifice and fighting is not been forgotten.

Did you ever want to go to war? Or were you one of the many soldiers that got tricked? We have heard that many of you thought it was a great adventure that you were going on. Was it? You thought maybe it was to France or England or some other nice place. But no. Instead, to a foreign land. Hot, dry, miserable. Unlike you expected. It wasn’t great - it was hell.

I cannot imagine what it would have been like for you seeing your family and friends for the last time. Not knowing what you're in for. All the pain of your wounds and shots. Knowing you were going to die. Having no hope. No faith. All this was because of war. Because others couldn’t be equal and get along.

How were you feeling when you found out what was really happening? When you got your gun and uniform and were told to kill? On the battlefield with all the blood and shooting, your best friends dying before your eyes. Stretcher bearers running in with no protection to go get the wounded. Turks trying to kill you, and all you can do to protect yourself is to kill them.

I want you to know that i’m only 10 years old but you're so important. I've already learnt so much about you. Once again I thank you. Remember you won't be forgotten.
Yours sincerely Eva. B
